OweFlowHow OweFlow works
Six short steps, no jargon. By the end of this page you'll know how to split a dinner, share the rent and get paid back without a single awkward text.
Sign up with email or Google. Your name and photo help friends recognise you when they see who paid for what.
- Use the same email your group already knows.
- You can change your display name and default currency later in Settings.
A group is any set of people sharing money — a flat, a trip, a couple, a dinner club. Open Groups, tap New group, pick an emoji and a currency, then share the invite link.
- Anyone opening your link sees a preview of the group before signing in.
- Pick the House or Roommates type if you share rent and utilities every month.
Inside a group, tap Add expense. Enter what it was, how much, who paid and the date. OweFlow assumes an equal split unless you say otherwise.
- Equal split: everyone pays the same share.
- Percentage split: give each person a share of 100% — useful when rooms differ in size.
- Custom split: type exact amounts, handy when only some people ordered dessert.
- Snap the receipt and Premium will read the total and category for you.
Rent, internet, electricity and streaming don't need re-typing. Add them once as a recurring expense with a frequency, and OweFlow posts them to the group on schedule.
- House mode shows every recurring bill, your monthly share and what's already posted.
- Pause or edit a recurring bill any time — nothing already posted changes.
Balances update instantly. Instead of everyone paying everyone, OweFlow works out the shortest chain of transfers, so three people usually settle in two payments, not six.
- Open Settle to see exactly who should pay whom and how much.
- Pay outside the app, then mark the payment as settled to clear the balance.
- Send a friendly nudge if someone forgets — it's a polite notification, not a bill.
Insights breaks your spending down by category, person and month, so you can see where the money actually goes and where to trim.
- Export any group to CSV if you keep your own spreadsheet.
- Premium adds a monthly AI summary with plain-English suggestions.
Words you'll see in the app
- Balance
- What you're owed (positive) or what you owe (negative) across a group.
- Share
- The slice of one expense assigned to one person.
- Settle up
- Recording that a real-world payment happened, which clears the balance.
- Simplified debts
- The smallest set of payments that squares everyone up.
- Recurring expense
- A bill that posts itself on a weekly, monthly or yearly schedule.
